Get started in photography! Develop your creative skills and get a solid foundation in photography and digital imagery. Whether you are planning on embarking on a career in photography, or just wanting to develop your photography skills for your own interest, this course will be exciting, challenging and rewarding as you explore photography from an art perspective through to a commercial perspective.

During the course you will have the exciting opportunity to work with our make-up, styling and fashion students on various photographic assignments which will help you build up a portfolio of work. You will learn the theoretical and practical skills to develop your photographic skills working both in the studio and on location, exploring your creativity and developing your eye for capturing dynamic imagery.

This course is suitable for both adult learners as well as high school students to complete as part of the VET in Schools programme. Students who have completed the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (Photography) course will receive direct entry into our Diploma of Photo Imaging qualification and will receive credit for any units covered by both qualifications.

Qualification & Units of Competency:

On successful completion of the course, students will receive the nationally recognised CUA30715: Certificate III in Design Fundamentals qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Have your experience recognised and increase your employment prospects by enrolling in Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Through RPL you could reduce the duration of your studies. Get the recognition you deserve and enquire about RPL today.

RPL assessed on a case by case basis, so it is only available on application. Students will be charged $200 per unit of competency.

VET In Schools:

This course is suitable for high school students to complete as part of the 'VET in Schools' program. The course has been structured so that the finish date is in accordance with the VET reporting dates to the Qld Studies Authority to allow students in Year 12 to have this course contribute to their high school certificate.

Students who are going in to year 10, 11 or 12 and are interested in completing this course, should contact us to receive the course enrolment pack. We recommend that they then visit their school careers councilor or VET coordinator to discuss their interest in undertaking the course with them, prior to enrolling.

As this is a certificate III program, successful completion of this course will enable students to obtain 8 points towards their high school certificate.

Course Duration:

Full Time: This course runs over 14 weeks, 3 days per week from 9am - 3.30pm.

Part Time: The course is delivered over a year on Mondays from 9am - 3.30pm

Required Equipment & Additional Costs:

Students will need to provide the following equipment:

  • Student ID ($25)
  • Basic stationary
  • Printing and photocopying done by student
  • 35mm DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Camera. Minimum requirement of 1 lens, although additional lenses are useful.
  • Laptop Computer and software - see requirements below:

LAPTOP / NOTEBOOK MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Students accepted into the program will be required to have a laptop computer with a wireless network connection. The following minimum specifications are required:

  • Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n
  • Minimum 4Gb RAM
  • 2Ghz or faster processor
  • Web Browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari) (free online)
  • Norton Anti Virus - Students will not be allowed to connect to our network without Norton Anti Virus installed and activated.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (free online)
  • Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Lightroom (See Adobe website CLICK HERE)

Course Fees

Upon enrolling in the course, the student (and guarantor/s) becomes liable to the institute for the full course fees.

Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (Photography) - Full Time:

Full Course Cost (Payment Plan): $3,900.00
  • Balance paid in weekly direct debit instalments (with integraPAY) over course duration: $3,600.00

Application and Enrolment Process:

  1. Attend an interview at the college and complete an interview test - phone (07) 55 938 335 to arrange your interview. (If you live outside the South East Qld Region and are unable to attend an interview, contact us to have the application forms posted to you).
  2. Fill out and return the Application Form (this can be completed at the interview).
  3. Students will recieve their acceptance/non-acceptance letter and enrolment pack in the mail - including enrolment form, payment plan forms and the student handbook.
  4. After reading the student handbook and enrolment forms, students who wish to enrol must submit the enrolment form with the course deposit to secure their position in the course.
