* Students can enter this qualification at Diploma level if they have already completed the Certificate IV in Photo Imaging or have equivilent knowledge and experience. All others commence with the Certificate IV. Please see the term dates section below for Diploma level commencement dates.

This qualification reflects the role of photography practitioners who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised and technical competencies to previsualise, plan, carry out and evaluate photography services.

During the course you will develop knowledge of current trends in photo imaging, learn to interpret photo-imaging assignment briefs, consult with clients to refine objectives of photo-imaging assignments, select appropriate technologies and workflows to capture images, employ aesthetic, conceptual, compositional and technical skills to photo-imaging outcomes and will gain exposure to a variety of shooting styles .

This course offers regular industry excursions and location shoots, which will give you amazing opportunities for portfolio development. An emphasis on industry involvement and extracurricular projects are encouraged to all students to help promote opportunities for success. Throughout the course there will be many opportunities for you to work with our students studying in our fashion, make-up, beauty, styling and interior design courses giving you further opportunities and experience.

This course is vocationally orientated and provides diverse, professional and exciting outcomes. Emphasisis is placed on all assessments being relevant to the current photographic industry. Major projects encourages students to showcase their unique signature styles. Final assessments include a portfolio and exhibition to help promote students as artists and also serve as a valuable marketing tool for your career.

During the course you will learn the aspects of commercial, editorial/photo journalism, portraiture and fine art photography and will work with such topics as sports and action photography, landscapes, nature, architecture, interiors, fashion, glamour, stock imagery and event photography. You will also learn extensive digital post production skills with Adobe Photoshop to enable you to create dynamic imagery through graphic effects and touch up your photos to build a professional and diverse portfolio of work.

Qualification & Units of Competency:

On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the ‘CUV50411: Diploma of Photo Imaging’ and the ‘CUV40411: Certificate IV in Photo Imaging’, which is nationally recognised as part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Course Duration and Term Dates:

The course runs over 3 days per week from 9am - 4.30pm (with a half hour lunch break) each day. The Diploma runs over approximately 1 year (36 weeks of tuition plus holidays) including the Certificate IV in Photoimaging. The Certificate IV runs over approximately 6 months (18 weeks of tuition).

Price:

The course fees are for a position in the course and are payable whether the student completes the course or not. Upon enrolling in the course, the student (and guarantor/s) becomes liable to the institute for the full course fees.

To secure a position in the course, student's must pay a minimum non-refundable course deposit of 10% of the 'Discounted Upfront Payment Price' (listed below).

  • Students will be required to pay for their graduation dinner for themselves and any guests. Students will be advised on the price in advance – allow maximum of $80 per person.

Required Course Equipment:

Students will need to provide the following equipment:

  • 35mm DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) Camera. Minimum requirement of 1 lens, although additional lenses are useful.
  • Laptop Computer - see requirements below
  • Portable Hard Drive

LAPTOP / NOTEBOOK MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Students accepted into the program will be required to have a laptop computer with a wireless network connection. The following minimum specifications are required:

  • 2Ghz or faster processor

Application and Enrolment Process:

  1. Attend an interview at the college and complete an interview test - phone (07) 55 938 335 to arrange your interview. (If you live outside the South East Qld Region and are unable to attend an interview, contact us to have the application forms posted to you).
  2. Fill out and return the Application Form (this can be completed at the interview).
  3. Student's will recieve their acceptance/non-acceptance letter and enrolment pack in the mail - including enrolment form, payment plan forms and the student handbook.
  4. After reading the student handbook and enrolment forms, student's who wish to enrol must submit the enrolment form with the course deposit to secure their position in the course.
